Dry figs simmered in Mavrodaphne syrup with black peppercorns is a variation on an ancient greek recipe. This was a much appreciated taste at the symposia where Socrates, Plato, Pericles, Aristophanes, Aristotle, Alexander and so many others were enjoying themselves.
